Our Fabulous Team!
Fran Bird BHSI, UKCC Level 3 (Owner/Head Instructor)
Fran Bird is a BHSI and BE Accredited Level 3 Coach; she also has an Equine degree. She has competed to advanced level, but now helps riders to understand the science behind the horse and rider partnership and the horse's physiology to enable the rider to get the best out of their performance.
Fran coaches horses and ponies, with riders young and old, professional or amateur preparing them for Trials and CCI***. She also specialises in developing a foundation of confidence whilst introducing new riders to the sport and welcoming back riders returning to the saddle after a period of absence. Fran has also trained young horses and ponies from backing to international level.
Fran offers her expertise, across a series of clinics, camps and training sessions and looks forward to welcoming new and existing clients where she will work with you on your specific needs and objectives.
Joanne Syson BHS Stage 2 Teach (Riding School Manager)
Jo handles the administration for the riding school; dealing with lesson bookings, holiday programmes and day to day management of the riding school.
Jo is qualified to BHS Level 2 in Complete Horsemanship including Level 2 Teach.
She teaches mainly on Saturdays and during school holidays but is available for other bookings if required.
She owns Beetle, and they enjoy taking part in various grassroots activities.
Hannah Smith (Competition groom/Yard Manager)
Hannah is the mainstay of the yard at Regal Equestrian; nothing happens to any of the horses without her knowing about it first!
With excellent attention to detail, a genuine love for the horses in her care (even the difficult ones!) and a dedication to the job which goes above and beyond the call of duty; the yard would not run as smoothly as it does without Hannah at the helm day to day.
As well as caring for, exercising and preparing the horses for competition; she also travels to competitions with Fran and Tom.
Tom Bird UKCC Level 1, PC B Test (Competition rider/Instructor)
Tom is Regal Equestrian's resident competition rider; he is testament to how fantastic a Pony Club and Riding School education is for riders who wish to have a career working with horses.
Still only 17 years old, he has ridden up to Intermediate and CCI 3* level, has been first reserve for Pony Europeans and is aiming to eventually compete at Badminton and the Olympics.
Working with green and inexperienced horses, he and Fran have produced several horses through the levels including his current rides - Rebel Rhyme, Cowling Hot Gossip and Infinity SBK Z. He currently also rides Parkfield Quintessential on behalf of Parkfield Stud.
Tom has also passed the Pony Club B+ test and is currently training for the AH test. He is also on an Advanced Diploma in Sporting Excellence through British Eventing and qualified as a UKCCL1 coach in 2019.
